November 15, 2004—It was announced today that Audrey Geisel, widow of Theodor “Dr. Seuss” Geisel, has made a $100,000 contribution towards the Children’s Museum San Diego. The La Jolla resident and philanthropist made the donation to the Museum’s new construction project in downtown San Diego.
In accepting the gift, Museum Executive Director Kay Wagner commented, “With Mrs. Geisel’s contribution, we move closer to our goal to complete construction on our new home for San Diego’s children and families. We are proud to include her in our circle of supporters.”
To date, the Children’s Museum has raised $14.5 million toward the new facility. To complete the $22 million project, another $7.5 million is needed. Donations are being solicited from businesses, foundations, grants, and individuals.
San Diego’s favorite creative destination for kids and families since 1983, the new Children’s Museum will rise in early 2008 as a 50,000 state-of-the-art facility. An integral part of the revitalization of downtown, the building is being designed by the award-winning architectural firm, Rob Wellington Quigley. The new Museum will not only serve as a valuable community resource but also as an architectural icon, a premier world-class attraction and a top family-tourist destination.
