QUALCOMM, Inc., the County of San Diego, and Pinnacle International
June 25, 2005—As the Children’s Museum rallies support from local community members, businesses, and organizations, awareness of the Museum’s current situation is becoming increasingly clear. To ensure arts experiences for all San Diego children and to complete construction of this world-class, architectural icon—the community has joined forces to make this vision a reality.
On June 21, 2005, QUALCOMM, Inc. announced it’s $500,000 donation to name the Public Programming Space in the new Museum at it’s 20th anniversary employee celebration. As a local corporation who has supported numerous non-profits, QUALCOMM also made contributions to the Elementary Institute of Science, the Monarch School and Voices for Children.
On June 22, 2005, the Downtown Residential Marketing Alliance and BIA Cares for Kids held a private unveiling of the architectural plans for the Children’s Museum/Museo de los Niños San Diego. Host Sherm Harmer, with Urban Housing Partners, Inc. and BIA Cares for Kids proposed a Challenge Fund to downtown developers, to help raise the additional funds required to finish construction of the new Museum. Mike DeCotis, President of Pinnacle International, announced their substantial contribution of $50,000. An over-sized check from Greg Cox, with the County of San Diego for $100,000 was also presented. Four other developers pledged their support that evening and will be announcing those contributions at a later date.
The Children’s Museum/Museo de los Niños San Diego is a non-profit arts/education program where children and their families have been learning through the arts for over 24 years. We are currently in the process of building the Muse our new facility. Designed by Rob Wellington Quigley, it will be downtown’s first major “green” building.
