Art on the Block for the Children's Museum School
The Second-Annual Auction for Arts in Education

May 30, 2006—What happens when you take a bunch of cutting-edge artists, combine them with an adventurous charter school, and stir it all up? The second-annual Auction for Arts in Education, that's what.

Look for an incredible array of artwork, sculpture, crafts and cultural artifacts on the auction block to benefit the Museum School on June 17, 2006, from 7am to 11pm at the San Diego Art Academy at 9th and G streets downtown.

Artists such as James Watts, Mario Blanco, Ben Darby, Krystina Gramatica, Branan Freeman, Lindy Ivey, James Ivey and Joseph Dupuy, many of whom have taught at the Museum School/Escuela del Museo and are exhibiting widely in San Diego and nationally, will donate artwork and be honored at a special reception at 6 p.m., before the auction itself begins at 7 p.m.

Enjoy wine and cheese and get to know some of the creative personalities who are sparking the resurgence of downtown San Diego. General admission is $10 by reservation; the reception is $25. Call 619 405 9194 or visit museumschool.sandi.net.

The Museum School, founded on the site of the Children's Museum/Museo de los Niños San Diego in 1998, helped pioneer the hands-on, project-based, team-oriented, community-connected learning for life educational philosophy now getting national attention through schools like High Tech High. This tiny school, of less than 100 students in grades 3 through 6, has been singled out by charter school organizations as a model for this type of learning.

Last year's art auction connected many downtown denizens and art lovers with this dynamic school. As the Museum School prepares to move into its new home downtown along with its parent organization, the Children's Museum, come see what the buzz is about, meet the educators and artists, help raise money for the new location and bring home some great art.For more information on the Museum, visit the website at childrensmuseumsd.org or phone 619 233 8792.
