It's a Paint Party and Everyone is Invited!
January 17, 2004—The new Children's Museum San Diego facility is under construction downtown and the wooden pedestrian barricades around the construction site will be painted with temporary murals on Saturday, January 17th from 1pm–3pm.
“It’s a giant outdoor canvas,” explains local artist Pete Evaristo.
With the help of students from Morse High School, Southwestern College, and the Museum School, local artists Pete Evaristo and Todd Stands have set out with art teacher Bridgette McConnell to transform the ordinary walls into an extraordinary public art exhibit. During the last two months, they have worked with the students to create temporary murals on wood panels to be installed along the Market Street barricade. The panels are designed to be portable and can be relocated to other construction sites after the new Museum facility is completed. With so many sites under development around the city, the ArtWalls project provides creative and affordable options for builders seeking to enhance plain barricades with something unique and artistic.
On January 17th from 1pm–3pm, the community is invited to participate as students and their families join downtown neighbors and friends of the Children’s Museum to complete the project. A painting party will take place that afternoon at the Market Street barricade, between Front and Union Streets, to complete the installation of student murals and add new community-generated artistic embellishments to the wall. Be sure to dress for creative fun and come by add your artistic touch to the barricade ArtWall.
